Thievery Corporation’s Eric Hilton and Rob Garza found a connection in Washington DC around 1995 with a musical vision that combined bossa nova, Jamaican dub reggae and vintage film soundtracks into a hazy, laid back hybrid that emerged as their first twelve inch,”2001 a Spliff Odyssey.” That single (and the follow up,“Shaolin Satellite“) launched the prolific ESL Music label and led to a series of dj-friendly but dubbed-out excursions of sound that propelled Hilton and Garza into stardom. With their Eighteenth Street Lounge label, the duo expanded the sonic output while keeping sounds tight in the pocket for a very refined collection of albums and singles that currently number into the hundreds. After 16 years of working together Thievery Corporation’s output of music and touring still hasn’t slowed down. Earlier this year, the duo released the Culture of Fear LP and toured festivals worldwide to critical response
