Some weeks ago we announced the winners of the Egostereo – “Sex Pistols” Remix Contest, and Paul Lennar got the 1st place picked up from a list of 126 tracks.
Here is a short interview :
Who is Paul Lennar?
I’m a guy who works as Dj, musical production teacher and also teach dj mixing techniques in my city Bogota – Colombia. I feel passion for deep progressive House sounds, as well as trance, Minimal and Deep techno.
I present my own Radio Show named Global Dance Radio Tv. My productions style is atmospheric and also dense and dark, full of soft rythms, progressive groove and melodic lines. “I really never be satisfied, but I always try to improve my sound and musical style”. I also negotiate my sound work with artists and labels who may be interested.
When have you started with music production?
Actually, I began to produce electronic music 3 year ago, influenced by great Dj’s like: Daft Punk, Sasha, John Digweed, Markus Schulz, Jerome Isma-Ae, Cid Inc, Egostereo and many more. Always trying to creat and show new yas to feel the music. That’s a little dificult because some international producers don’t use to trust in the work of south american producers, but in this kind of contest is possible to prove otherwise jeeee
What is your studio setup?
I have a very simple studio, Rokit 6 KRK & Studiophile AV30 M-Audio monitors, , Audio Interface Pro Tools Mbox Mini, Controller Akai APC40, Controller M-Audio Axion 25, Mac Book OSX Lion, Mic Sennheiser e835, Ableton Live with Vst´s: Moog, Nexus, sylenth1, Waves, z3ta, Omnisphere, Trilian & many more. As I’m just beggining I have no physical machines, to make the final mastering processes I all do it with vst, it demands to be very original and to have a great creativity to surprise labels.
Do you play live or djing?
Yes, Im also a Dj and I like to use (Ableton Live for live shows), I considere to have a technical scratching skill, transmiting my emotions and playing with the crowd feelings, always handling new tendences with contemporary and vanguard music. I offer a powerfull energy on the dance floor using some Deep Techno, Groove, Minmal Trance fussions toghether with experimental sounds of my equipement. I have played warming up parties for great Djs like: Santiago Niño, Thomas Penton, Andrea Saenz, Milton Channels, Randall Jones and some others. I have also been Dj Guest Mix in radio stations like 1430 AM, Dj Club Magazine(Mexico), Also in audio streaming pages like ADN Alternative en (ARG), Radio 4/4 Livestrem (Estocolmo) (Colombian Groove Cartel), por Pure.fm and Dance Radio y now at days in Tv Streaming on www.atomikchannel.com
How did you get to know Findremix?
I already knew due to many contest I have participated. In fact Im registered since long time ago. I always be aware of all weekly contests you make to keep on participating and improving daily.
Do you think it is useful?
Of course it is. I think this is not just for producing or remixing tracks of other artists, but also for learning and practicing, for me it’s a very useful tool to may be acepted by several important labels and it’s an easier work way for remixing. Ahh .. and the best, we can win great prizes, I really think any good and talent producer may be the winner. I always say it !!!
Have you entered other remix contests?
Yes, I’d say in many contests like Sasha-Cut Me Down, Nitrous Oxide-Follow You (toghether with my friend Daniel O´Neil), Robert Babicz – Remote Kiss, Marco Bailey – Bom, Bang, Plastikman – Ask Yourself, Hernan Cattaneo & Soundexile – Teleport, D-Nox & Beckers – Call Me,
and some others, and I guess I was not ready enough; now the jury and Egostero give me the chance to be in the label with this Sex Pistols remix, I’m really happy to win this time!!! You can see some of my remixes and originla mixes on http://soundcloud.com/
What is your working method when starting a remix?
I first listen to identify the label sound, the style they have and all those things, then I select the samplers I’m going to use, integrating my own style, aditing and adding percussions and other keyboard extra parts, I change melodies and armonies to make more diferent to original versión, I get deep on my work to create semthign really diferent, soundable and specially to be good for the labelo r artists. The rest is on the way.
Among other things, you have won a release on a top level trance label. Is this your first release?
It’s the first time. I work for Mc Groove, It’s a big honor, I have also work for labels like Mistique Music (Russia) HIFI Stories – Plusquam Records (Germany), Global Artists Recordings wich is my own label and now I work with with Sandrino Beesley & Danny Minchella (Egostereo) is a big experience because they have been some of my favorite producers.
Good luck in your music career, and keep producing good tracks!
Thanks to all you and the sponsors Groove3, Fabfilter, Prime Loops, D16 Group, Mc Groove Rec & a Egostero for your credibility in my work. Cheers from Colombia !!!
