Who is Johan Malmgren?
I’m a 21-year old Swedish guy that loves to produce music, geek around with different tech-stuff and to hang out with friends and beloved ones. Other than being a producer I’m also a railway engineering student that will graduate in a couple of years.

When have you started with music production?
I was about 12 years old when it all began. I did some tunes with Propellerhead Reason 2 and recall I did a pretty cool track a couple of years later. However, I felt electronic dance music wasn’t something for me so I tried something else; to actually stop listen to trance and I went over to play rock and soul music with a couple of friends in school. There I played the drums and the guitar, I actually got myself a nice Pearl drum set at my parents place. I didn’t listen to trance for about three years, then I got back to it and singed my very first record on Ferry Corsten’s imprint Flashover Recordings in 2009.

What is your studio setup?
AKG headphones, a couple of Genelec monitors, a Novation SL MkII midi keyboard, RME soundcard, Ableton Live 8 and some additional software instruments and effects. Basically that’s it! I feel the need for professional audio equipments becomes less and less prominent for each year now when the software manufactures do what they do.

Do you play live or djing?
At the moment I’m spending all of my time in the studio, mainly because that’s what I like doing. But I’ll probably begin spinning some tracks out there soon as well, would be nice!

How do you get to know Findremix?
I’ve seen great competitions been launched on Findremix before I entered the Nitrous Oxide competition. But as soon as I saw one of my favorite labels hosting a new remix competitions it didn’t take long before I signed up!

Do you think it is useful?
I find the site very useful for upcoming producers and labels that want to get some publicity. It’s a great way of letting listeners and promoters get to know your name and get the chance to win some nice gear on the cup.

Have you entered other remix contests?
No, this is my first remix competition I’ve entered. Of course feels great to actually have won it as well!

What is your working method when starting a remix?
I always start with some kind of idea. If I don’t get an idea or some kind of initial feeling to start off with, I probably don’t do the remix since I know the result could be under my quality standard. The hard part is to actually get the idea from my head to the sequencer, but often it works quite well.

Among other things, you have won a release on a top level trance label. Is this your first release?
My first release was “Primitus” on Flashover Recordings in 2009. After that I got a couple of releases on Marcus Schossow’s Tone Diary Recordings (sublabel on Spinnin’ Records) as well.

Good luck in your music career, and keep producing good tracks!
Thanks for the interview and the nice competitions you guys are hosting!
